【PALAKA (pah-lah-kah)】
is one of the traditional fabrics widely used in Hawaii in the late 19th century. The fabric was imported from Britain and originally used for sailor uniforms. It spread as a durable fabric with good ventilation suitable for immigrant workwear. In Hawaii, colorful red and blue check patterned fabric came to be called PALAKA, Because of its strength and breathability of the fabric, it has been loved by many
of the locals here in Hawaii, which became the staple fabric here, till this day.
